The Flock - The Flock (1969) (US)

The Flock fue una de las bandas más interesantes de lo que se llamó Jazz Rock, junto con Blood, Sweat & Tears y Chicago. Se formó en Chicago, en 1966, y desapareció definitivamente en 1975.

La banda, en su momento álgido, estaba formada por Jerry Goodman, (violín y guitarra), Fred Glickstein (guitarra y voz), Jerry Smith (bajo), Ron Karpman (batería y percusión), Rick Canoff y Tom Web (saxo y flauta), y Frank Posa (trompeta). Con esta formación, grabaron sus dos discos más interesantes.

La banda se forma en 1966, integrada por Canoff, Glickstein, Smith, Karpman y un segundo guitarrista, Rick Mann. Entre el 66 y el 68, publicaron cuatro singles que consiguieron un cierto éxito en el top 20 del circuito de radios de Chicago. En 1967, por la influencia de bandas como BS&T, incorporaron a Web y Posa, tras una breve estancia del saxofonista John Gerber, para completar su sección de metales.
En 1968, Rick Mann abandona el grupo, y la banda selecciona para suplirlo a un brillante violinista, que también toca la guitarra, Jerry Goodman. El sonido de Goodman, transforma el propio sonido del grupo; además, Goodman introduce conceptos de improvisación colectiva que provienen del free jazz.

Con esta formación, editan su primer álbum, llamado simplemente The Flock (CBS, 1969), que contiene algunas joyas, como Clown o el tema de largo desarrollo Truth, elaborado sobre una estructura de blues. Con el tema Tired of waiting, consiguen entrar en los charts y su presencia en el recopilatorio de CBS, Llena tu cabeza de rock (1970), un disco con grandes ventas en todo el mundo, y cuya portada fue una espectacular foto de Goodman con el violín, les asienta definitivamente en el mercado.

Jimi Hendrix Experience - Electric Ladyland (1968) (US)

Electric Ladyland es el tercer álbum de The Jimi Hendrix Experience (la banda de Jim Hendrix), el cual fue lanzado en 1968, y fue el último de la banda.
Es un álbum doble que suele ser considerado uno de sus mejores álbumes. Se destacan elementos que anticipan el rock progresivo en canciones como "1983... (A Merman I Should Turn to Be)", y la versión de la canción de Bob Dylan "All Along The Watchtower" (que suele ser considerada por muchos como la mejor versión de la misma, incluso por Dylan).
La grabación del álbum fue muy problemática. Luego de una complicada gira por Escandinavia e Inglaterra, Hendrix decidió regresar a su país natal, Estados Unidos (se había mudado a Inglaterra antes de ser popular). Frustrado por las limitaciones de las grabaciones comerciales, decidió crear un moderno estudio en Nueva York, en el que no tuviera limitaciones para expander su visión musical. La construcción del mismo, llamado Electric Lady, tuvo diversos problemas y no fue terminado hasta mediados de 1970. Como resultado, grabó gran parte de "Electric Ladyland" en The Record Plant.
Los disciplinados hábitos de trabajo de Hendrix se volvieron erráticos, y la combinación de sesiones interminables y de estudios llenos de aduladores finalmente causaron que el productor Chas Chandler renunciara en mayo de 1968. Chandler más tarde se quejó de que Hendrix insistía en grabar muchas tomas de cada canción (al parecer, "Gypsy Eyes" tomo 43 grabaciones, y a pesar de eso Hendrix aún no estaba satisfecho con el resultado). El perfeccionismo de Hendrix llevó al guitarrista Dave Mason a que grabara 20 tomas de la guitarra acústica de "All Along The Watchtower"

The story of Crystalaugur is a strange one: the obscure Native American band Crystalaugur recorded this album in Singapore between 1972 and 1973, orginally pressing a mere 200 copies for a private label (Warped Rec) and the ridiculously small pressing made the original album an unbelievable rarity. The fuzz guitar and space rock vocals definitely put this LP in the psychedelic realm with an interesing primitive backdrop.
